Ana de Armas’s John Wick replacement proves that a film’s box office isn’t always the end of the story. One year after a disappointing run in theaters, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is officially a streaming hit on not one, but two different platforms.
According to FlixPatrol, Ballerina is officially a hit on both HBO Max and Prime Video. The 2025 John Wick spinoff is the No. 1 most-streamed movie in the United States on HBO Max. Correspondingly, it is also the No. 8 most-streamed movie worldwide on Prime Video’s charts, adding to its surprising post-theatrical success.
Ballerina Was a Box Office Disappointment
Despite its connection to the ever-popular John Wick franchise, Ballerina failed to meet expectations at the box office. The film earned relatively positive reviews, though not on par with Keanu Reeves’s previous films. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes awarded Ballerina a respectable 75% approval rating, indicating mostly positive reviews.
Even though so much was working in its favor, Ballerina only grossed $131 million at the worldwide box office. The film only had a budget of about $90 million, but still couldn’t quite break even after promotional costs. Ballerina went down in the history books as a financial disappointment, even if it did some interesting worldbuilding for the larger John Wick franchise. Even so, its recent streaming success is a silver lining on the film’s post-release life.
Will There Ever Be a Ballerina 2?
One year after its release, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina can finally put at least one success on its resume. The film may not have been a financial hit, but it has still found its audience on streaming. Even with this in mind, it doesn’t seem likely that Ballerina will ever get a sequel. The film ends on a cliffhanger, with Ana de Armas’s Eve Macarro realizing that she’s the new target for the High Table. Now, it seems unlikely that audiences will ever get a follow-up to this cliffhanger, though there is always a chance for Eve to appear in another John Wick film.
Conversely, there are still other installments of the John Wick franchise in the works. In addition to John Wick 5 , an animated prequel is in development that will depict the assassin’s “Impossible Task” before the events of the first movie. There are also multiple spinoffs in development after Ballerina , centered around characters like Donnie Yen’s Caine.
It isn’t the end of the John Wick franchise, even if Ballerina underperformed at the box office. As the film performs well on streaming, the future looks bright for the world of John Wick.
